Vitamin B12 shots

Vitamin B12

The vitamin B12 is needed for proper red blood cell formation and aids nerve function. It also plays a part in synthesizing DNA and converting fats into energy.

Vitamin B12 deficiency causes many symptoms such as:

Benefits

B12 can be taken orally as supplements, but there may still be absorption problems.  B12 is injected intramuscularly and so bypasses the digestive process, thus getting into the bloodstream for use by the body quickly.

There are many benefits of Vitamin B12 injections to include but not limited to:

Some medical research papers have also suggested that B12 can help to improve heart health,  act as a protection to some cancers and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

When taking vitamin B12, it’s important to limit alcohol intake. Even moderate use of alcohol could decrease vitamin B12 levels.

You should not use Vitamin B12 injection if you are allergic to cobalt, or if you have Leber's disease.

Side effects:

Pain/redness at the injection site

Mild diarrhea

Itching, or a feeling of swelling all over the body.

Very rarely, if overdosed, vitamin B12 can increase the amount of that vitamin on facial skin. This, in turn, causes a certain facial bacteria (propionibacterium acnes) to produce more of something called porphyrins, which results in inflammation. And this could lead to acne.

Recommended treatment if you have any of B12 deficiency symptoms:

1000 mcg once a week for 3 weeks and every month afterwards.

Maintenance dose: 1000 mcg monthly.
